EDUCATIONAL COURSES IN DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY

Placements - Only suitable for 17-18 years upwards

Do you study in an arts, care or related field?

Are you a university student looking for a vocational experience or PAD module?

We may be able to offer you a work placement. This is a valuable opportunity to gain direct insight into dance movement therapy and community dance under the expert supervision of Senior Registered Dance Movement Therapists.

Alison had a placement with us recently and had this to say,

I am a final year student study Dance Studies at John Moores University in
Liverpool. Throughout my three years I have been focusing my studies on
dance in the Community and education settings. This runs alongside my
general study of dance performance, contextualisation and practical
training.

As part of my dissertation I was required to complete a 5-6 week placement.
I have spent my 5 weeks at Dance Voice where I have been working with a
variety of client groups and witnessing first hand how a community
dance/education centre is run. I had previously done a 3 week placement in
Manchester working with a similar population of clients to Dance Voice. This
whetted my appetite and I decided that Dance Movement Therapy was something that I was interested in and would like to explore more.

I was told about Dance Voice from a friend at University who had completed
the Introduction to Dance Movement Therapy Studies course. She said it would be an ideal place to learn more about DMT. I looked Dance Voice up on the web and saw the notice about placement students and subsequently contacted the office to see if a placement would be viable.

I do not want to be a performer in a company, so the chance to work with
dance in an alternative setting is very important to me. Dance Voice gave me
the chance to work with a variety of clients and has really helped my
understanding of how dance can be used in ways other than mainstream
education and performance.

I would strongly suggest that other people working in related fields to DMT,
such as therapy, social care, psychology, arts therapy, who are looking for
a work placement contact Dance Voice and see if they are able to offer you
anything. Dance Voice has limited placement opportunities.  The Introduction to Dance Movement Therapy Studies course is also really useful to those who want a basic practical and theoretical introduction to DMT. I completed the course at the very start of my placement and it greatly influenced me and informed my practise for my placement. The staff at Dance Voice were a great help and support to me during my placement and were always available to answer questions and give advice on anything I was unsure of.
