Ghost hunting for charity

Well we did the vigil on Friday night(13th)/Saturday morning (14th) and some of us saw and felt things whilst

others did not.

Some spoke to spirits through a moving glass, others just felt a presence, a chill down the spine -

and a couple actually felt physically unwell in some of the rooms of the castle.

The groups made contact with spirits from 12th century up to and including Queen Victoria's times.

There were gruesome tales from the hangman, who apprently really enjoyed his job and was fully of the opinion

that everyone he dealt with deserved to die, although he did ask if we could forgive him. The hanging room

did have a odd smell about it and those stood underneath the hanging beam had a very odd feeling even with

the light on.

Then a heart wrenching tale from a lady of the house whose lover was hanged after their affair was found

out by her husband.  (This incidentally corresponded with what one of the mediums had said earlier in the

evening about a man he saw with his hands tied behind his back who appeared to know he was to be hanged.)

A lively interaction went on between a couple who fought and died together in the crusades

(using two of our number as mediums)  Aparently they'd waited 400 years to get together again and

were really pleased to 'see' each other.  The glass was flying up and down the table in jolly banter.

One mistress of the castle was married to a nobleman and had one male child.  She died in 1871, but not

at the castle.  She comes back because it was a place where she was happy.

ST BRIAVELS CASTLE

9pm until 5am

One of our most frightening locations with recorded poltergeist activity, apparitions and even psychic attacks! Are you ready for St Briavel's Castle?

Our first overnight investigation at St Briavel's Castle was over five years and we were never disappointed with the vast range of paranormal activity that occurred during our events. After a break of eighteen months, we return to see if the castle is as haunted as our first visit!

A castle has stood on the site since 1110 in various incarnations but it was King John who is probably its most famous visitor, using the castle as a hunting lodge and administration centre for Gloucestershire that its most famous for. Since King John many Kings and
Queens and historic characters have visited but for most of its time it has acted as both chapel and prison. Since 1947 it has been leased to the Youth Hostel Association.

Many ghosts have been reported over the years. In the Solar Room is the ghost of the crying child, it is one of the more prolific ghosts, being heard on many occasions. Recently during ceiling repairs to the room, the wrapped corpse of a young baby fell from the rafters - possibly confirming the source of the crying baby!

Another ghost haunts the grounds of the castle towards where the castle keep used to stand. He is a gentleman in a full suit of armour, who stands quite intimidating, watching your every move. The moonlight often shines on his armour and then in a blink of an eye he disappears. When he appeared in the 1950's it was rumoured that he was one of William the Conqueror’s soldiers.

Other areas of the castle also have reported paranormal activity; the "Hanging" room has paranormal activity and a strange atmosphere, while the Oubliette room has sent previous occupants leaving in the middle of the night to get away from the castle! The castle’s jail has a strange atmosphere and the original graffito on the walls confirm that it was often the last place they saw before their deaths.

The night promises to be an amazing investigation experience!

Why not spend the night in St Briavel's Castle using ghost-hunting equipment and working with an experienced psychic medium and a paranormal investigator. A psychic workshop will also be undertaken and a tour around the castle to see what is lurking around the corner. Then you will be sitting in vigil in the castle’s most haunted rooms with the hope that ghostly activity will occur.
